Dialectical Imagination

Over the past year and a half I have been working on something that sits outside of FJR but connects directly to why I do this work.

It is called Dialectical Imagination. A publication built around one idea: that the best conclusions are never the product of a single voice, but of genuine dialogue with the sharpest opposing view you can find. That is the same discipline I apply to every investment thesis at FJR. I wanted to apply it to bigger questions.

My academic background is in social sciences, and these questions — how power shifts, how structural change originates, how civilizations respond to technological disruption — have occupied me long before FJR existed.

Dialectical Imagination is not a blog. There is no schedule, no new posts to follow, no subscription to sign up for. What you will find is four ideas I worked on for eighteen months. I built something I wanted to exist in the world and I am sharing it.

Idea I lays out the intellectual framework — where the concept comes from, what it means, and why it matters now. It draws on Hegel, C. Wright Mills, Bakhtin, and the philosopher Charles Peirce. If frameworks and intellectual history are not your thing, skip to Idea II and come back to it later.

Ideas II, III, and IV are where it gets practical.

Idea II applies the framework to how structural change actually happens in the world — and why the center is always the last to see it coming. Idea III looks at what the AI moment means for how people build and own things, who benefits, and why the distinction between owning and operating is becoming the defining economic question of the decade. Idea IV looks at the decade ahead directly — the collision between AI acceleration and democratic legitimacy, the income question that has no clean answer, the failure scenario if we get this wrong, and the settled belief the framework produces about where this goes.

There is no paywall, and no algorithm deciding who sees it.

I put significant thinking and work into this across 2025 and 2026. I am sharing it with you first because you are the audience whose judgment I respect most.
