The Future of Health Just Got Real. And It Happened Today.
Bold Bets on Category-Defining Companies
Today, Midjourney announced something that stopped me in my tracks. You probably know them as the AI image generation company that turns text prompts into pictures.
They are building a full-body Ultrasonic CT scanner. A 60-second whole-body scan. Positioned not as a hospital procedure but as something you walk into like a spa appointment. They are calling it the Midjourney Spa. One minute. Your entire body. Imaged with a level of detail that previously required hours of preparation, medical referrals, and insurance approvals.
Let that sink in for a moment.
A 60-person community-funded research lab with no investors and no venture capital just announced it is disrupting medical imaging. The same way they disrupted visual art. Every category-defining company does it by refusing to accept that the existing model is the only possible model.
This is the pace at which things are moving right now. And most people are not paying attention.
What This Means for the Bigger Picture
We are entering a period where the convergence of AI, biotechnology, and hardware is going to produce things that sound like science fiction until the day they become real. Full-body scans in 60 seconds. Blood tests that detect cancer years before a tumor forms. AI systems that model your personal disease risk with more accuracy than any physician could using traditional methods.
We are already living in the early version of this world. That is what Natera is. Signatera detects circulating tumor DNA in a blood sample at the level of one molecule per ten million. It finds cancer in the bloodstream before it is visible on any scan. Before symptoms. Before the conversation with your doctor that nobody wants to have.
The technology is here. The reimbursement is in place. Medicare covers it across five cancer types. Over 350 peer-reviewed publications validate the clinical evidence. One million tests were processed in a single quarter for the first time in Q1 2026.
The Inequality Question Nobody Wants to Talk About
Here is where I want to be open & honest with you, because I think about this a lot.
The Midjourney Spa is not going to be free. Natera tests are not free. The next generation of longevity interventions, whether AI-driven early detection, personalized genomic medicine, whole-body imaging, or biological age reversal, will all arrive first as expensive private services accessible to people with money.
We are heading toward a world where wealth and longevity correlate positively. That correlation already exists today. It is going to become more extreme. People who can afford these tools will catch disease earlier, treat it more effectively, live longer, and compound that advantage across generations.
This is one of the most important societal conversations of our time. And it is happening largely outside the mainstream.
I do not have a clean answer to the inequality problem. But I am aware of it. And I think everyone building or investing in this space should be aware of it too.
What This Means for FJ Research
Health and wellness technology is the most important investment theme of the next twenty years, because it is where the most consequential human problems are being solved.
Wealth without health is meaningless. That is not a cliché. It is the most rational investment thesis I know. The companies building the tools that let people live longer, healthier, and more informed lives are going to be among the most valuable businesses ever created.
Natera is one of them. Midjourney Medical might become one. The list will grow.
I will keep looking, learning & writing.

Great piece. I completely agree health and wellness is going completely parabolic.
Any publicly traded firms you’re looking at. I’ve seen a lot going on in privates but not much in public equities. Probably can just buy LLY and wait for an acquisition.
Few of the privates I’m following (Daniel Ek’s Neko (Spotify’s founder), function health (a16z), superpower, Climatic health (lung health device - CPG/Wellness))
Good to know about all this new health advancements. In the future, people will live longer and this is excellent, but this makes me wonder what the social security system will look like from the point of view of government spending. They should probably start thinking about a reform.
